Cobra is a lesser known company in the golf equipment market, but we have the important details that you need to know.
Cobra was founded in 1973 by a man named Thomas L. Crow. The company was under Crow’s direction until it was acquired in 1996. Cobra was acquired by Acushnet, the same holdings company of the Titleist brand. Cobra remained under that umbrella until the year 2010. On March 10, 2010, Cobra was acquired by Puma. Cobra remains a subsidiary of Puma in 2018.
The brand has a few industry relationships. Formerly, Cobra was the sponsor of a world’s best golfer, Greg Norman of Australia.
Today, cobra continues to provide various pieces of golf equipment. In this review, we’ll examine the different offerings of Cobra golf bags
More About Cobra Golf Bags
Cobra golf bags are all variants of two basic bag structures. They both will serve a different purpose. So, to better understand what Cobra’s golf bags are like, let’s have a quick overview of those two structures – cart bags and stand bags.
As you might have concluded already, a cart bag is a golf bag designed for use with a cart. Cart bags are typically less-compact than a stand bag. They are made for use with a push cart, often provided by the course or membership organization. Despite their design centered around the use of a cart, they commonly have shoulder straps as well.
A stand bag, on the other hand, is lighter and more compact so that it is less-cumbersome when carried. They come equipped with retractable legs that allow you to set the bag upright directly on the fairway without the use of a car. For this reason, these bags are typically carried with the attached shoulder strap, though in many instances the bag will be compatible with a cart as well.
Cobra actually has a third pseudo-category of golf bags. This is the “staff” category. These bags technically fall into the “cart bag” category though they are not labelled as such. Their distinction from the rest of the Cobra golf bags is that they are identical to bags used by touring staff sponsored by Cobra.
What Makes Cobra Golf Bags Unique?
Cobra’s catalog of golf bags has something for everyone.
The most affordable Cobra golf bag is the Ultralight Stand Bag. Available in both Men’s and Women’s versions, this bag is the perfect mix of affordability and professionalism.
The bag has a five-way top with full-length dividers meaning that your clubs won’t get tangled. The bag also has one standard apparel pocket. For hot and cold beverages, the bag is equipped with an insulated drink pouch.

As this is a stand bag, the straps are equipped specifically for carrying. The bag only ways 4.5 lbs. The straps have a quick release technology and it is designed to keep your back cool. Additionally, the bottom of this bag is flexible so that it can adapt to most surfaces no matter how unleveled.
Cobra also offers a cart version of their ultralight bag. This particular bag is available in both Men’s and Women’s as well. This bag is a little bit more expensive, retailing at $200.

But, keep in mind this is a cart bag. Cart bags are notoriously expanded from their stand bag counterparts. The ultralight cart bag by Cobra has a 14-way top with full length dividers. On top of that, the bag has 12 external pockets including two full-size apparel pockets, an insulated drink pocket that fits cans, and a fleece-line valuables pocket.
While the ultralight cart bag by Cobra is a cart bag, it does still have a strap. The strap is not as comfortable as with a Cobra stand bag, as it is meant to primarily be affixed to a cart, but the bag does come with a single shoulder strap.

Despite being a stand bag, the Cobra KING Stand Bag has a 14-way divider to keep your clubs extremely organized. The dividers on this bag are full-length. The divider has a built-in handle for easier maneuverability.
The Cobra KING Stand Bag has 9 external pockets including a zippered cooler pocket, an insulated drink pocket, one apparel pocket, a fleece-lined valuable pocket, and a customizable ball pocket.

Then there is the Cobra KING Cart Bag. This bag is similar to the stand-bag version but does have some differences.
The cart version of the KING bag by Cobra is equipped with a 15-way divider, as opposed to a 14. The dividers are, of course, full-length.
For the ideal storage situation on the course, the KING Cart Bag has 13 external pockets. These include: fleece-lined rangefinder pocket, fleece-lined valuables pocket, insulated drink pocket that will fit cans, insulated zippered pocket, and two full-sized clothing pockets.
This bag is made specifically for a cart; therefore, it has cart strap pass-throughs. These channels for the cart straps allow you to still access crucial equipment in your bag pockets even when the straps are attached.
The KING Cart Bag is priced at $240. It is also available in an ultradry version. The KING Ultradry Cart Bag is priced at $270.

Cobra currently has a deal on one of their older, staff-categorized bags. It is from the 2017 season and is currently marked for retail sale at $329, a markdown from $480.
Though it is last season’s bag, it is quite a nice golf bag. Features include:

- Fleece-lined valuables pocket
- Fleece-lined rangefinder pocket
- Dual oversized apparel pockets
- Dual insulated beverage pockets that can up to a large water bottle

If you don’t mind purchasing last season’s golf bag when this year’s bag is already out, you may get yourself quite the steal by purchasing this bag. We couldn’t be sure how much longer they’ll be available.
However, if you are interested in this season’s staff golf bag by Cobra, you’ll be happy to know it is priced fairly reasonably as well, all things considered.
The 2018 staff bag is rather traditional but very luxurious. It has a 6-way top with designated full-length club dividers. It has seven pockets including dual oversized apparel pockets, a fleece-lined valuables pocket, and more. The bag also has a customizable belly pocket that can be easily removed and embroidered.
The 2018 Cobra Staff Bag is available in both a standard edition and a model that is branded with logos from the KING tour, depending on your preferences. Both models of the 2018 Cobra Staff Bag retail for $420.
The last offering of Cobra golf bags is only a limited time offer, though it is still currently available. In collaboration with VESSEL bags, Cobra is offering the limited-edition Special Edition Tour Stand Bag. Cobra explains more on the uniqueness of this golf bag.
“Carried by Rickie Fowler for the very first time on Tour this week at Shinnecock Hills. This custom COBRA x VESSEL collaboration Special Edition Tour Stand Bag is available in very limited quantities….Rickie’s caddie, Joe Skovron, will carry a custom COBRA Golf & Vessel Tour Stand Bag, a nod to Rickie’s amateur days and the amateur golfers who grind through qualifying to earn their coveted spot in the year’s second major….This Special Edition Tour Stand Bag incorporates all the necessary on-course features of a Tour Staff bag, including heavy-duty zippers, durable PU material and a single strap for easy carrying, but in a much lighter package. In fact, the Stand bag weights in about 60 percent lighter than the bag Joe typically carries each week on Tour. This version was inspired by the USA’s red, white and blue color story, and this week’s host site, Shinnecock Hills and its legendary club logo.”
If a limited edition like the Special Edition Tour Stand Bag is something you find to be interesting, you may want to head on over to Cobra as fast as possible before they’re out.

Kiawe, a verified purchaser of this bag, shared his experiences after years of dedication to Cobra bags.
“Been a Cobra enthusiast for decades and didn’t like the orange look too much but got it anyway. Then this bag comes out. Wow it looks good and have pockets for everything. Full club compartments keep them from getting stuck between each other and super stroke pistol putter grips (the big one) fit in the putter compartment. It has all the space you need. Stands up fine on flat surfaces like a staff bag minus the bulk and weight. It repels water well so far. Got rained on hard for couple holes 3 days in a row and kept my electronics dry. Love the bag….”
This review was in response to Kiawe’s experience with the Cobra KING Cart Bag.
One customer who purchased the most affordable Cobra golf bag, the Cobra Ultralight Stand Bag, shared that, overall, they were quite happy but felt that the bag could be a bit lighter.

What We Think About Cobra Golf Bags
We are reasonably impressed with Cobra golf bags. They are not overly flashy, but in most cases provided exactly what you need to have a nice and even luxurious day on the course. They are constructed nicely, have ample storage, and tend to be quite light.
If price is your concern, you can buy a nice enough golf bag for under $200. Other bags under $200 might not meet the quality expectations associated with a Cobra golf bag.
On the higher end of the pricing scale, Cobra continues to meet expectations. Their staff bags are of high enough quality to meet the standards of touring professionals.
