Footjoy Golf Gloves Reviews – Is the FootJoy WeatherSof Worth the Money?
“You don’t really need to wear gloves for playing golf.” Famous last words from someone who doesn’t wear golf gloves. Well, not really. You may have heard that in order to be a golfer, you need to look like one. Many people wear golf gloves because it helps in the purpose of making them look like a golfer.
Of course, veteran golfers know better because there are many other benefits to wearing gloves other than being a fashions statement. For this article, we’ll briefly talk about the advantages of wearing golf gloves.
In addition, we have an in-depth FootJoy golf gloves review in case you are in the market for a new pair.
Why Wear Golf Gloves?
Outside of being a fashion statement, are there any other benefits to wearing a pair of golf gloves? Just to be clear, wearing gloves while playing golf is not a requirement but it’s highly recommended.
Here are the reasons why:
Better Grip
The main reason why people wear golf gloves is for getting a better grip. Without a glove, you tend to squeeze the grip harder which can lead to losing the ability to make a good swing. If your grip on the club is slippery, more tension will be present in the arms and hands which is never a good thing.
The gloves help in creating more friction between your grip and the gloved hand. If you are a golfer with a loose grip, you can really benefit from wearing a pair of gloves. Since weather can play a huge part in one’s game, there are specialized gloves that you can wear for a better grip.
If you are confident that the club will not find its way out of the course, thanks to the better grip, you can focus on other things like having a light grip pressure.
Preventing Callous and Blisters
Gripping the club (especially too tightly), along with the repeated swinging action will eventually lead to callous and blisters. Wearing a pair of golf gloves will not completely prevent them but it can significantly reduce the chances of their formation.
Dryness and Warmth
Golf gloves are available in various materials that cater to many different uses. Most players opt for leather or synthetic gloves since they can work any types of club and conditions.
However, there are many manufacturers that put out weather-specific pairs that can be used for cold or wet weather. In general, golf gloves are designed to keep your hands warm and dry.
If your hands are wet or cold, do you think you’ll have the grip to make the shot?

Material

These WeatherSof’s material is a combination of synthetic fabric and Cabretta leather. Together, FootJoy has managed to produce a glove that is soft, flexible, and most importantly, durable. Most of the gloves are made from synthetic with a few sections of leather around the palm.
There’s a reason why these gloves are considered a classic and I must say that it’s because of their flexibility. Due to the way I play, I really value flexibility with my pairs and the WeatherSof has given me just that. I find that they have better flexibility than most higher-end, full-leather pairs. The synthetic material is surprisingly soft and it sits comfortably around my hands and fingers.
That just can’t be said with more expensive, all-leather gloves.
The flexibility is further enhanced by FootJoy’s PowerNet mesh material which is placed around the knuckles. This area with the mesh is far more flexible than the leather or synthetic sections. This provides a solid feel when you grasp your hand and grip the club. No slipping or any uncomfortable creases whatsoever.
Comfort and Fit

Forgive the pun but this pair certainly fits like a glove. I pulled on the WeatherSof and began to wiggle my fingers and the seams sat precisely where I needed them to be. There’s not much to testing golf gloves but I really value this type of initial reaction when testing new pairs. Once you know your size, it’s all about having the seams fit.
In that regard, the FootJoy WeatherSof passed with flying colors.
Oh, these gloves are amazingly comfortable as well. The ComforTab and Coolmax Lycra inserts on the knuckles and thumb help in securing that comfortable fit. It feels like a luxurious glove and I feel like I just store something valuable considering the price.
Overall, the FootJoy WeatherSof gloves give that amazing fit and comfort which should be reasons enough to purchase a pair.
Performance and Durability

Since comfort and fit are already on point, it’s no wonder that this pair gives me a pretty good grip in my club.
I won’t say that it brought my swings to a whole new level but I must say that taking that swing while wearing these just feels so good. It certainly made my games more enjoyable as I don’t have to deal with painful blisters after every game.
In terms of durability, I am happy to report that gloves have earned top marks as well. Unlike most all-leather gloves that I have used before, the FootJoy WeatherSof gloves don’t wear or tear over time. Plus, it retains its high performance even during hot and sweaty days.
Most leather gloves will require you to air them out after getting them wet. That is not the case with this pair. These FootJoy gloves are good at absorbing a little moisture which includes rain and sweat. Because of this, these gloves will last you about twice as many rounds when compared to the usual high-end leather gloves. I just won’t recommend using the gloves during a downpour since they’re not designed for such a weather.
Fortunately, FootJoy also offers specialized gloves for rainy conditions.
After an 18-hole game, I can only observe some minor discoloration from the gloves. There are no scuffs or any other signs of wear and tear which is downright impressive.
