If you are planning to walk the course, a carry bag is your best friend. Now, there are many types of golf bags out there. In fact, one of the most popular debates in the world of golf is the Stand Bag vs. Cart Bag issue. Right off the bat, let us just say that there’s no right or wrong answer to this debate since it all comes down to the golfer’s personal preference.
If you are someone who prefers the stand bag type, we have to say that you’ve come to the right place. Today, we will be reviewing a golf stand bag that might be worth your time and money. For this Ogio golf bags review, we will take an in-depth look at the OGIO 2018 Shredder Stand Bag.
What is Ogio?
Ogio is an international company that specializes in making various bags and backpacks. Their products range from laptop backpacks, hydration packs, carry-on bags, gym and fitness bags, travel bags, and of course, cart and stand bags.
For many years now, the Ogio brand has been making a splash in the golfing world for their golf bags which are not just top-notch in quality but they’re quite affordable as well. Because of this, the company has been acquired by the Callaway Golf Company. Product Description:
You’re not the kind to scoot down the course in a cart. You’re there to play the course, not play behind the wheel. That’s why the Shredder Golf Stand Bag is perfect for you. Designed with walking in mind, it remains lightweight despite its 8-way club carry capability — so you’ll barely even notice it’s there.
With divider pockets that go the full length of the bag, your golf clubs won’t be clinking and clanging as you head to the next hole. An insulated drink sleeve keeps your water cool, while 5 other pockets fit your extra balls, gloves, and valuables perfectly. Two sturdy legs support a full bag, and quality fabric lasts for seasons.
While you may not be the showy type, it doesn’t hurt that the Shredder Golf Stand Bag looks great, too.
First Impressions

One of the first things that you’ll notice about the bag is that it’s a stand bag. In other words, it is designed to be lightweight so the bag can easily be carried to anywhere in the course. Obviously, this is the ideal golf bag for those who prefer to walk in the course during games.
The Ogio 2018 Shredder Stand Bag is available in three different colors and we got the black one. The bag features a very minimalist look but the overall design gives the impression that it’s a highly functional product. There’s the company name and the word “Shredder” emblazoned on the side of the bag which looks nice, to say the least.
Upon picking up the bag, what I felt was quality. The 2018 Shredder Stand Bag feels like it’s made from high-quality material and feels tough to the touch. However, that’s not to say that the bag is uncomfortable. In fact, you’ll read later in the review that it’s not the case.
Overall, I was very impressed with the Shredder Stand Bag right off the bat.
User Comfort

When it comes to golf bags, comfort is always a top factor for me and I can imagine that it’s the same way with many people. Fortunately, 2018 Shredder Stand Bag from Ogio is indeed comfortable.
I know that it is a stand bag so it is designed to be lightweight but I was not expecting it to be this light. At 4.4 pounds this is one of the lightest stand bags I’ve used and I have used a lot. While it’s a stand bag, it does come with a dual or backpack like straps which is called the Triple triangle suspension strap system.
There’s a handle in the bag that you can just grab and carry which makes it easy to transport your clubs. The flex foot base and integrated leg stand mechanism gives the much-needed stability so you don’t have to worry about the bag falling or rolling over.
There are not that many innovations here in terms of comfort but I am pretty happy with the comfort that 2018 Shredder Stand Bag has delivered.
Dividers

If you’re like me and you like to take the kitchen sink with you to the course, you will want a bag with plenty of storage options.
The Ogio 2018 Shredder Stand Bag is an 8-way top bag which is basically saying that it has 8 dividers at the very top where your clubs will be accommodated. Now, there are many people that would probably remark that 8 is not a good number when it comes to golf bags but it all comes down to one’s needs and preference.
Unless you’re a professional golf athlete who plays on a 36 hole regularly in various terrains, you probably won’t need more than 8 dividers. In fact, 5 is enough to meet most people’s needs.
Fortunately, 8-way club carry capability goes to the full length of the bag. This is good because you don’t really want your clubs to go clinking and clanging as you beeline to the next hole. Other bags don’t go all the way with their dividers which causes the clubs to bump with each other during transport which could result in damage.
The dividers themselves are quite spacious and were able to hold the clubs in place even when the going gets rough. If you don’t have that many clubs, you may be able to sneak in a putter or two into the dividers.
Pockets

The best golf bags will have other pockets where you can store your miscellaneous stuff for safekeeping.
This is where the Shredder Stand Bag hits a snag. There are only 6 zippered pockets in the bag which could be too few for many people. When it comes to zippered pockets, I always subscribe to “the more, the better” philosophy, so I was quite disappointed that it only comes with 6 pockets. An 8-pocket system would definitely hit that sweet spot.
There’s an insulated drink sleeve for securing your water bottle, and 5 other pockets for fitting extra objects like gloves, balls, and other valuables. The pockets are fleece-lined for extra protection. All the pockets are easily accessible,
All in all, the pockets worked and were able to keep my valuables safe during games but I wished there were more of them.
